40 Years In Coffee: 4 Things I Wish I Knew When I Started

This year marks my 40th year in the coffee industry. It’s been a wild and rewarding ride, from my first roasts to where we are now at Jim’s Organic Coffee. Looking back, here are four things I wish I knew when I got started:

coffee roaster

1. How to run a business.
When I started Jim's I had no idea what I was doing, all I knew was that I wanted to roast organic coffee. Passion came first and the rest followed.

2. What it takes to produce great coffee.
It's not just the roasting and putting out the product, it's making sure you get the really good stuff from great organic farmers that put a ton of work into it on their end to produce wonderful coffee for us. The work they do is the foundation of everything we do.

3. Quality first.coffee farm Even when things are crazy running the business, we know the product’s out there doing the work for us. That's why we put so much care into every roast.

4. What a cool business coffee is.
As a coffee merchant and roaster, we touch so many lives and it's really rewarding to know that we put out great coffee. It’s an honor to do this work and we’re thankful to be a small part of people's day to day lives.

Thanks for being part of the journey,
Jim
