Rwanda Kawa Yacu: A Limited Edition Micro-Lot Coffee
At Jim’s Organic Coffee, we believe that exceptional coffee tells a story: of the place, people, and process.
Our newest limited edition micro-lot, Rwanda Kawa Yacu, is a perfect example. This remarkable coffee not only delivers a vibrant and complex cup, but also represents a powerful movement led by women transforming the future of coffee in Rwanda.
What Makes Rwanda Kawa Yacu Special?

Origin: Karongi District, Western Province, Rwanda
Elevation: 1700–2200 meters
Varietal: Bourbon
Process: Naturally processed (dry on raised beds)
Harvest: February – July
Grown at high elevations along the lush hills of western Rwanda, this Bourbon varietal coffee develops exceptional density and sweetness.
The natural process (where coffee cherries are dried on raised beds) enhances fruit-forward characteristics, resulting in a cup that is both expressive and layered.
Expect a profile that is bright, fruit-driven, and deeply nuanced, with a sweetness that lingers long after the last sip.
Our Rwanda Kawa Yacu is sourced from the Women’s Coffee Extension (WCE) Kawa Yacu, a dedicated initiative of the Mbizi Washing Station in Birambo. Founded in 2017 by Aline Christine and Odette Uwamariya, Kawa Yacu, meaning “Our Coffee”, began as a collective of 350 women and has grown into a thriving community of over 700 female coffee producers.
The Women’s Coffee Extension focuses on empowering its members through sustainable agriculture training, nutrition and family wellness programs, and community development initiatives. These efforts create meaningful, lasting impact for the farmers, their families, and future generations.

The impact of WCE Kawa Yacu extends far beyond the cup. The cooperative continues to expand its reach and vision, with goals to grow membership to 1,200 women producers, achieve the Rainforest Alliance certification, provide livestock (such as cows) to support family incomes, increase access to health insurance, and build a sewing center to benefit local families.
Each of these initiatives strengthens the community and ensures that coffee remains a sustainable and empowering livelihood.
Micro-lot coffees like Rwanda Kawa Yacu are produced in small quantities, allowing for meticulous attention to quality at every stage: from cultivation to processing. The result is a coffee that truly showcases the unique characteristics of its origin.
But what sets this coffee apart is its deeper impact. Every purchase helps support a growing network of women producers who are redefining what’s possible in specialty coffee.
We’re proud to share this coffee with you, and even prouder to support the women behind it. Rwanda Kawa Yacu is available for a limited time only, so don’t miss the opportunity to experience a coffee that is as meaningful as it is delicious.
