Pro Tip: You can use this process with any single brew method that you like. Try the Chemex or V60 for a quick and easy single serving of iced coffee.

Flash Brewed Iced Coffee

From Jim's How to Brew Coffee Series

A quick and easy way to make iced coffee at home is to brew coffee in your home brewer- while replacing some of the water with ice. Make this “flash brew” over ice to instantly cool and preserve the coffee’s distinct profile.

WHAT YOU NEED: Whole Bean Coffee | Drip Coffee Machine | Ice Cubes | Scale

Step 1.

MEASURE: Weigh coffee as you normally would for the amount you would like to yield.

For example: Desired Yield - One 8oz cup, weigh 14g.

Step 2.

GRIND: Grind coffee fresh to a medium drip consistency, similar to kosher salt.

Step 3.

PREPARE: Use a scale to weigh ½ of the total finished amount in ice and add to your brew vessel.

For example: Desired Yield - One 8oz cup, weigh 4oz of ice.

Step 4.

BREW: Brew hot coffee with half the amount of water you typically would. You’re making a strong coffee concentrate.

For example: Desired Yield - One 8oz cup, use 4oz of water.

Step 5.

FINISH: Once the brew is complete stir together to melt the remaining ice and dilute the coffee concentrate. You will be left with a cool beverage that you can drink right away. Pour into a glass with more ice and enjoy!
