Mold in Coffee?

In recent years, the health-conscious coffee connoisseur has been bombarded with information about the supposed dangers of mold and mycotoxins in their daily brew. This is a very inaccurate reading of what occurs in the coffee world.

One misconception in the coffee world is the fear of mold contamination. Some individuals believe that mold can grow on coffee beans during the cultivation, processing, or storage phases, leading to potential health risks.

While we understand this concern, Jim’s Organic Coffee randomly tests for mold and no test has shown any trace of mold or other toxin in our coffee. While these results are excellent, we believe quality should be a determining factor, not testing. Testing for mold is very expensive, and in fact, many of the coffees out there that claim to be ‘healthy’ or ‘mold-free’ do not run regular tests. We test to give our consumers added confidence, and the testing has confirmed what we already know: very high-quality organic coffee does not contain mold. This has increasingly become the position of roasters similar to us - where quality is paramount.

Jim’s Organic Coffee only uses the highest-grade coffee beans. These beans go through many quality checkpoints at coffee origin as well as at our roasting plant. All our coffee is then roasted at 420-450 degrees Fahrenheit with exhaust fans continually pulling clean air through the roasting system. Nevertheless, our third-party testing for mold and other toxins alleviates any consumer anxieties over mold in coffee.

In the world of coffee, myths about mold and mycotoxins can easily lead consumers astray. However, when it comes to Jim's Organic Coffee, customers can be confident in the brand's commitment to providing a safe and high-quality product.

We hope this helps and alleviates any worries you may have.
